ベルリンを拠点に活躍するデザイナー、濱田明日香が手がけるファッションレーベル「THERIACA（テリアカ）」の展覧会。本展は、2018年夏に島根県立石見美術館で大きな反響を呼んだ同名の展覧会の巡回展です。同展から抜粋した作品群と、写真家・大森克己が捉えた着用風景のスライドショーを、KIITOの特徴的な空間に合わせて再構成します。
会場に展示する作品は、身幅やウエストサイズなど、服作りの基準とされる「人」のかたちから離れ、ダンベルやはしご、ラビオリなど、身近な「もの」のかたちから服を作る、という実験的なアプローチを通して生まれています。「もの」のかたちの服を人が身につけたときに生じる不思議なシルエットやドレープは、従来の服にはない違和感や面白さがあり、新たな「服」の可能性を提示します。本展を通して、「衣」への新たな視点を発見し、ファッションをより自分らしく楽しむヒントを獲る機会となれば幸いです。
THERIACA Shapes and Forms: Clothes, The Body, a fashion label run by the Berlin-based designer Asuka Hamada. It is a traveling version of an eponymous exhibition, which met a huge response when it was held at the Iwami Art Museum in the summer of 2018. A collection of works from the earlier event and a slide show of modeled clothing by the photographer Katsumi Omori have been reconstructed in accordance with KIITO’s unique space.
The works displayed in the venue are distant from aspects of the human form such as bust size and waist width, which are normally used to make clothes. Instead, the styles are based on the experimental approach of making clothes inspired by the shapes of familiar things, including dumbbells, ladders, and raviolis. The fantastic silhouettes and drapes that emerge when people wear clothes shaped like objects give rise to strange and interesting qualities that are missing from traditional apparel and they also suggest the potential for new clothing. We hope that this exhibition will help you discover a fresh perspective on clothing and inspire you to enjoy fashion in your own way.
